Printed Presence is a projection-based installation that augments printed photographs using subtle light overlays. By projecting elements like texture and edge highlights, the system invites viewers into a deeper engagement with still images, transforming passive viewing into a spatial and embodied experience
Using a projector and a camera, the system captures the silhouette of the viewer and re-projects it onto the very photograph they are observing. This creates a closed loop in which the viewer becomes both an observer and a part of the image. This recursive interaction offers a new experiential approach to themes such as presence, memory, and the gaze in visual art.
Through the creation of this system, I hope to draw greater attention to the subtle beauty of fine printed photography.
More broadly, this project explores how printed media of any kind can be recontextualized and enhanced through interactive light-based augmentation.
This system is not only designed for photographers, but also for artists working with printed materials—such as media artists, graphic designers, and illustrators—providing them with a new method of presentation.
Ultimately, it may serve as a way to enrich everyday encounters with printed art, even for general viewers and consumers.
K24, first staged in 2005, was built around a story of an ensemble rehearsing Romeo and Juliet. Based on the American TV drama formula, K24 was performed in six episodes, each of which lasted one hour and at the end of which kept the audience in suspense.
